Madelynn Carney, more commonly known as “Max”, earned her Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from the Michigan School of Psychology. Max focused her studies on a Humanistic approach to therapy, emphasizing respect, empathy, and genuine connection with her clients. Her graduate school experience also included intensive experience and training working with substance abuse issues. After graduation, Max moved into private practice, where she enjoys supporting a wide range of individuals. Her background has given her unique insight into helping adolescents and adults manage ADHD symptoms, develop emotional intelligence, improve anger management, increase coping skills, overcome challenges, find balance, and achieve personal growth. Overall, Max enjoys empowering clients to take control of their lives and make positive, lasting changes. She is passionate about creating a safe, welcoming environment where her clients feel heard, respected, and supported.
Max believes that therapy should be as unique as each individual. She collaborates with clients to create a personalized plan that matches their needs and goals. Using a blend of Humanistic, Gestalt, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), along with Motivational Interviewing, Max helps clients build effective tools for managing stress, improving emotional regulation, and enhancing focus and confidence. She works with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, and more.
For clients experiencing ADHD symptoms, Max provides practical strategies to strengthen executive functioning skills, establish routines, and build confidence in completing daily tasks. Her approach is goal-oriented, ensuring clients walk away from therapy with new insights and tools to use in their daily lives.
For clients experiencing substance abuse issues, Max helps her clients understand and process what caused them to start using. She helps her clients find new hobbies, build routine, and develop new connections. Her approach is to help clients feel confident in themselves and their individual journey.
Max understands that starting therapy can feel intimidating and strives to make each session a positive, encouraging experience. She is dedicated to helping her clients feel more in control, make meaningful progress, and create fulfilling lives.
Max is here to walk alongside you on your journey, offering a compassionate, non-judgmental space for growth and self-discovery.
Max has also completed professional development and received a certificate in Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) through Pet Partners which is an AAT training program. Max offers psychotherapy sessions enhanced with the use of AAT with G3’s Certified Therapy Dog, Lexie.
Max strongly believes that therapy is client-driven and the therapist is to walk beside them in their journey. They are driven by the mindset that anyone and everyone should have access to mental health resources and receive help. Max does not believe an individual needs a mental health diagnosis to receive therapy. There are many daily challenges an individual experiences therapy is a great way to make those challenges less of a burden.
Outside of her work, Max enjoys exploring the outdoors, trying new foods, and spending time with her pets. She’s also active in her community and participates in research on how mindset shapes our response to environmental issues. In her free time, she loves engaging in role-playing games with friends and family.
