Dr. Smith is a Licensed Psychologist in the State of Michigan and a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP). Dr. Smith works as lead pediatric psychologist for Wayne Pediatrics and is part of a multidisciplinary team providing care to children and adolescents. Her work supports children and adolescents exhibiting anxiety, depression, enduring mental illness, neurological disorders, attention deficits and learning disabilities. She also supports those who may be adjusting to physical illness or dealing with personal or family relationship concerns. Family consultations are also available. Conducting psychological assessment, school consultations including IEP/504 Plan, and providing behavior planning support and cognitive behavioral therapy are among her specialties. In addition to her role as a pediatric psychologist at Wayne Pediatrics, Dr. Smith serves as clinical assistant professor for the Department of Pediatrics at Wayne State University School of Medicine.
Dr. Smith is a native Detroiter who is dedicated to serving children and families throughout Metropolitan Detroit. Dr. Smith has over 20 years of experience in psychology and education in school, hospitals, and community mental health settings. Dr. Smith earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Michigan and Master’s Degrees in Clinical Psychology and School Psychology from Houston Baptist University and Michigan State University, respectively.
Dr. Smith and her husband are blessed with two adolescent children.
Dr. Smith uses cognitive-behavioral techniques, play therapy, and insight therapy to help clients as they cope with life’s challenges. Through her work with clients, she aims to empower clients to gain tools and resources as they navigate adjustment challenges, grief, depression, and anxiety. As a school psychologist, she has a unique assessment lens for informing intervention and providing consultation, particularly for school-aged children. It is her goal that clients are encouraged and empowered to find hope and possibilities in the midst of their difficulties in life through problem-solving and action-oriented strategies.
