Evan Harwood

Evan earned his Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from the Michigan School of Psychology, where he learned the importance of how a person-centered, humanistic approach valuing authenticity, respect, self-awareness, and autonomy can create impactful and lasting change in clients. He began his professional career serving a diverse clientele in a partial hospitalization setting dealing with a range of diagnoses and presenting problems including but not limited to: eating disorders, mood disorders, trauma, anxiety and depression. Evan collaborated and worked with a multi-disciplinary team of dietitians, nurse practitioners, and other psychotherapists to help provide the best possible care to clients while providing a holistic, unbiased, culturally sensitive space for clients. Evan’s background in psychotherapy in a private practice setting as well as applied behavior analysis provides clients with a unique set of skills to incorporate and use in their daily lives, helping them make the changes needed to meet their desired goals.

Clinical Approach

Evan helps children, teenagers, and adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, behavioral issues, OCD, significant life stressors/changes, and/or outpatient level eating disorders. He enjoys helping clients improve their overall physical, mental, and social well-being. Evan helps clients develop effective coping skills, improve attention and focus, improve emotional stability, and develop self-compassion and acceptance. To do this, Evan incorporates and welds together multiple therapeutic approaches in his practice, encouraging and empowering clients to facilitate the change and growth that they are looking for. Evan utilizes several humanistic, cognitive, and behavioral techniques including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and mindfulness-based therapy.

Taking a humanistic approach, Evan believes that you are the expert and are in control of your own destiny! Evan works to minimize the power differential that can be inherent in the therapeutic relationship by focusing on helping clients be themselves, focusing on the importance of trust and willingness in the therapeutic relationship as being pillars and motivators towards one’s full potential. Evan considers therapy to be collaborative and highly specific to each individual client and their culture, and works to continually update and increase his awareness and knowledge of new research and information that has an impact on an individual’s life experience and environment.

Evan understands the mental fortitude and vulnerability that it can take to make the first step towards change. He is proud of all of his clients for their bravery and willingness to engage in meaningful change!
