Azari Haygood

Azari Haygood earned her Masters in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Applied Behavior Analysis from Michigan School of Psychology. She currently practices as a Limited Licensed Psychologist (LLP) in the State of Michigan. Azari began her career in the mental health field working with adolescents and adults with traumatic brain injuries and co-occurring substance use disorders. Throughout her undergraduate studies, she began to focus more on working with children, adolescents and families. While obtaining her masters degree, her practicum focused on neuropsychological testing and counseling to families of neurodivergent children. Upon completion of her graduate studies, Azari began her career in testing and providing psychotherapy services. She acknowledges that psychological testing can be an intimidating concept, but in reality, it is a powerful tool designed to help that individual. She views clients as a person first and foremost, while acknowledging their diagnosis for treatment planning purposes. Using a person centered approach allows her to acknowledge a diagnosis, while understanding that the role a diagnosis plays in someone’s life will vary from person to person.

When Azari is outside the office she enjoys spending her time with her husband and son. She loves anything involving the outdoors and traveling. One of her favorite places she has traveled to was Costa Rica, where she spent her honeymoon relaxing in the rainforest. Her  other passions include cooking, traveling, and spending quality time with friends and family.

Clinical Approach

Azari believes that therapy and testing should be as unique as each person. When providing psychotherapy services, she utilizes a Humanistic and Behavior Analytic approach to help a client achieve their therapeutic goals. Azari regularly works with children and adolescents that are neurodivergent, experiencing anxiety, depression, and restricted eating. In addition to working with children, she also works in close capacity with parents and caregivers, believing that in order for a child to be successful their support system should also be equipped with the knowledge of different therapeutic tools. As a parent herself, she understands how therapy for a child can feel intimidating and works hard to help children and their families have a positive experience.

Regarding testing, Azari knows that it can be difficult for children and adolescents to understand the reason as to why they are going through an evaluation. She works with parents and caregivers to foster the testing process as a collaboration between child, parent and herself. Throughout the diagnostic process, Azari pulls from her humanistic background, to aid in creating a therapeutic alliance with that individual.
